The town of Kamena Vourla (known as Thronion in Homeric times) is situated at the foot of Mount Knimis at the southeast end of the Maliakos Gulf and developed from 1939 when the Asclepius hydrotherapy center was built.
In the ‘60s and ‘70s celebrities from all over the world spent their holidays here making Kamena Vourla the most popular thermal resort in Greece and one of the most important in Europe.
Today Kamena Vourla is an important holiday destination in Greece, combining a cosmopolitan atmosphere, superb beaches, thermal baths and mountain walks.
Due to its geographic location, it also represents an important stopping place for travellers on their way towards many other tourist destinations, such as Skiathos, Skopelos, Meteora, Karpenissi, Pelion, Delphi and Athens.
